The Kitty Page

We have two Kittycats in our house: Ashah (who owns me, Neal) and Spooky (who owns my wife, Valencia). Each cat truly loves one of us more than the other cat does. It wasn't planned like that-- it just happened that way.

Ashah-- My Familiar: A Fine Abyssinian Feline

She was born on September 14, 1994 (a Virgo by choice).

What can I say? She's the most gorgeous cat on Earth!

Ashah ([hebrew--spelling-goes-here]) is a Hebrew derivative of Acsah, the daughter of Caleb who boldly asked for the City of Jericho as her betrothal gift [Joshua 15:13]. Bold is a mild word for describing Ashah. She is a flying cat who will jump from and onto anything. She will travel only on your shoulder (which she will jump onto from the nearest chair). She, unlike most breeds of cats, needs people-- more than they need her: if you go downstairs, she'll go downstairs; if you go upstairs, she'll go upstairs; go to sleep and she'll do the same. Or, if you rub her paws, then she'll drift off to sleep. Above all, she is the most gorgeous cat many have ever seen. This might be companion boasting but I doubt it: a woman actually followed me out to the vet's parking lot just so that she would not miss telling me what a gorgeous cat Ashah is!

"Wake up and smell the garbage!"

She also has the uncanny habit of needing to sniff the wastebaskets in the morning, regardless of whether or not anything new has been placed in them.

Where Da Spooky-cat at?

She was received by my wife, as a kitten, in July of 1989

There's only one way to describe Spooky-- aloof. She's always hiding (from something?)-- hence her name. But she is a wonderfully intelligent being. For those times when you're sad and need comforting, Spook-spook is there. She rarely meows (as opposed to Ashah who meows at the drop of a dime... literally... a dime or anythingelse dangled in front of her-- prepared to drop), always has her secret, quiet, warm/cold place to sleep, and is ready to protect... if it really comes down to it:
Once, we were taking care of a friends cat, while she was traveling. Her cat (G-Money) was cantankerous-- probably disoriented and feeling abandonded. When I tried to get G-Money (for some reason I needed to move her), she attacked me! (Of course, a cat versus a 180 pound human isn't that much of a battle... but still... cats can be cats). Well before I knew it, my Spook-spook placed herself between me and the ferocious feline-- poised to protect me. I couldn't believe it. Here was the households most non-present wraith, ready to go toe-to-toe (uh... claw-to-claw) with a frenzied foe!

Well, that's our Spooky! Always there when you need her; safe, quiet, and gemütlich when you don't.
