Club Med: Turks and Caicos
For our Summer vacation, our friends (Ileana and Carol), my wife (Valencia) and I (Neal) decided to go to some place tropical. We chose Club Med: Turks and Caicos Isles. For most people, Turks and Caicos doesn't exist! I had never heard of it and didn't even no if it was an actual country. However, at least from within the resort, it is a wonderful place. Let's put it this way, it was the longest period of time I have gone without a computer-- 7 days.
- Where is it?
The Turks and Caicos Isles are just south of the Bahamas. From the New York Area, it usually takes a two-leg flight: with the first leg originating from Newark, JFK, or LaGuardia Airports arriving in either Miami (for Newark and LaGuardia) or The Domenican Republic (for the JFK flight) and the second leg arriving in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos. Airfare varies with the seasons, special promotions, and duration of vacation. Flights may specifically found with American Airlines. (Although, our ordeal with them has yet to be reconciled.) Our expected beginning to end travel time was 8 hours and 5 minutes (with a long, 3 hour layover in Miami)-- 6:55AM Newark, New Jersey to Miami, Florida at 9:30AM, 1:20PM out of Miami, Florida to Providenciales, Turks and Caicos at 3:30PM.
Upon arriving at the Providenciales Airport and traversing customs, there is a van (or taxi) trip to the Club Med resort. This trip should cost no more than $20.00 US per person.
(NOTE: The adopted currency of Turks and Caicos is the U.S. dollar.)
